, Brown was diagnosed twice with cancer after he began his coaching career. The Houston Oilers drafted Brown in the eighth round of the 1991 draft with the 214th-overall pick. He spent eight seasons in the league, playing for three teams, but his best days were with the Oilers and Giants. He ran for 1,002 yards for the team in 1993, and in 1998 with the New York Giants he went for 1,063 yards.

Brown retired from playing in 1999 and spent some time coaching at Williamsport before moving into college coaching, first at Lycoming, in 2003. He had stops at Susquehanna, Rutgers, the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys before going to Wisconsin prior to last season.Gary Brown was a great person. Prayers up to his wife Kim and his 3 kids.
