Jake Seibert is transferring to Northern Illinois.
Seibert, who will bring three years of eligibility to NIU, made the only field goal of his Ohio State career on a 23-yard kick in the national championship game against Alabama at the end of the 2020 season, when Seibert was a true freshman. He did not see any game action over the past two seasons as Noah Ruggles handled placekicking duties.
While Seibert also spent time practicing at cornerback in 2022, he never saw any playing time on defense. Coming out of this spring, Seibert did not appear likely to factor into this year’s kicking competition after Jayden Fielding, Parker Lewis and Casey Magyar handled kicking duties in the spring game.
Seibert seeks a fresh start and the chance to earn playing time at NIU, which is in need of a new kicker as John Richardson, who made 18 of 23 field goal attempts for the Huskies in 2022, is no longer playing college football.
