“My mum and dad met in a band when they were younger so I've grown up surrounded by music'

2023 looks set to be a great year for Northern Ireland musical star Darci Wilders with the release of some brand new music. The then 18-year-old took part in the third battle round of the ITV singing competition against Dublin busker twins Katie and Aoife Lynch, which left mentor Meghan Trainor with a tough choice to make. But it was Darci who Meghan took through with her to the Knockouts round of the competition after the performance.

“Since my graduation, I took a year out to write music with my dad, Alan, who is also a local musician, in the studio “So I went to my room, picked up my guitar and within half an hour, ‘If Only’ was written. But it took quite a while for me to build up the confidence to set foot into a studio and sing about it because it was quite emotional for me.

“I put my all into it and it was tense at times working on the track in the studio with my dad. I suppose when you have two creative minds collaborating on the one song, disagreements are going to happen and we definitely did bicker like mad at times,” she laughs. “I have written a few more songs and am working on a few more in the studio, so there might be an EP in the works and a music video later in the year so watch this space!”
