SALINAS — Judge Pamela Butler sentenced former Harden Middle School teacher Robert William Dunham, 56, of Salinas to 40 years in state prison for sexually abusing three minors and annoying or molesting two additional minors.
According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, the Salinas Police Department was made aware in September 2021 that Dunham sexually abused John Doe No. 1 between the ages of 12 and 16. Dunham was his former middle school teacher. Dunham was still employed as a teacher at Harden Middle School when the victim disclosed the abuse, which took place during school hours.
The Salinas Police Department conducted an investigation, which revealed additional victims. John Doe No. 2 said he sexually abused him. And then John Doe No. 3 came forward and said that Dunham, his former teacher and coach, had forcefully touched him in a sexual way as well. Two female former students of Dunham reported that he had also touched them in an offensive and inappropriate manner while at school, the DA’s Office said.
