Former Homewood High School standout Ameer Abdullah signs with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Abdullah played the entire 17-game regular-season schedule in 2021 – six with the Vikings and 11 with the Panthers. He ran for 166 yards on 51 carries, caught 38 passes for 289 yards and one touchdown and returned 29 kickoffs for a 22.3-yard average while on the field for 314 offensive snaps and 107 special-teams plays.
Three of the five players who returned kickoffs for the Raiders last season are no longer on the team. After becoming the first Nebraska player to rush for 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons, Abdullah entered the NFL as a second-round draft choice of the Detroit Lions in 2015. Abdullah led the Lions in rushing and the NFL in kickoff-return yards in 2015 and was Detroit’s top ball-carrier again in 2017 after an injury limited him to two games in 2016.
Since being waived by the Lions during the 2018 season, Abdullah has rushed for 323 yards on 82 carries and caught 62 passes for 445 yards and four touchdowns in 56 games with Minnesota and Carolina. He had 1,251 yards and six touchdowns on 327 carries and 57 receptions for 420 yards and three touchdowns in 35 games with Detroit.
