After nearly three decades in with the SFGiants, Brian Sabean is heading back to the New York Yankees to serve as an executive adviser to GM Brian Cashman.
As head of the baseball division from 1997-2018, Sabean led the Giants to three World Series championships , four National League pennants , five NL West Division flags and three Wild Card entries -- the most successful era in Giants history.
In 2018, he transitioned into a new role as Executive Vice President when current president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi took over. Sabean let his Giants contract expire and reached out to the Yankees himself, per MLB.com's Maria Guardado. Brian Sabean said he expected to do more and be more involved in his advisory role with the Giants, but it didn't turn out that way. He decided to let his contract expire on Oct. 31 and reached out to the Yankees, who offered "a better opportunity" that fit his family needs.The Giants released a statement following the announcement and thanked Sabean for his contributions that will never be forgotten.
"The San Francisco Giants would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Brian Sabean for his enormous contributions to our organization and wish him the best of luck on his new position with the New York Yankees. Brian has been a pillar of our game and a cornerstone of this franchise for 30 years and we are extremely appreciative of his leadership and the legacy he leaves behind.
