The drab downtown office building that was once CPS Energy’s headquarters is set to be redeveloped as an upscale hotel with a restaurant as part of a $55 million project.
El Portal and other proposed hotels are being planned while San Antonio’s hospitality industry continues to recover from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit the city’s central business district particularly hard as dozens of conventions were canceled and business travel dried up. Still, Sherman said the overall market and specifically the central business district “are doing remarkably well.”
