Jayson Schroeder, pitching for Tri-Valley in 2019, never got above Class A in Houston's system after being a second-round draft choice.
The Astros released Schroeder in December after three dreadful minor league seasons. The team spent $1.25 million to sign him after selecting him 66th overall in 2018. A round later, the Astros selected University of Maine shortstop Jeremy Peña. Schroeder never threw a pitch above Class A. He finished his minor league career with a 6.95 ERA and 189 walks in 134 ⅔ innings.Schroeder acknowledged he got caught up in the “hype” of his second-round selection and “probably definitely let that get to me more than I probably would have wanted to, looking back on it.”
