Crime scene investigators taped off a house in Tameside after a man was arrested on suspicion of arson.
A man was arrested on suspicion of arson at the scene. He was also taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.The Manchester Evening News understands that no-one else was injured. No further details about the incident have been released at this stage.
Local residents said they were shocked to see the police on the 'quiet' street. Janet Jones, who has lived nearby for eight years, said: "I heard sirens, but I had no idea it was for round here."Everyone is helpful with each other. I don’t sleep very well and I was watching television, and I heard the sirens but I did not think anything of it.
Another man said: "All I saw was the tape up and CSI was there. That was at 11 o’clock." Another resident said: "I usually rise at 10:30 or 11 o’clock.
