A blaze ripped through a tenement building on South Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Officers wearing white forensic suits were spotted on South Bridge following the blaze that ripped through a tenement building on Saturday afternoon, Edinburgh Live reports. Emergency services raced to the scene and the bridge was temporarily closed to traffic and pedestrians while firefighters tackled the inferno.
There were no reported injuries but a joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is now underway to determine the cause of the blaze. Six fire appliances attended the scene after the fire broke out at roughly 6.30pm on June 3. Nearly three days later, investigators have finally been able to access the wreckage after a thorough examination was completed to check the safety of the building. Several fire investigators were seen making their way into the building and standing outside on Tuesday, with police officers also in attendance.
Speaking at the time of the fire, a concerned witness said: "The whole of south bridge is closed and there are about eight fire engines plus dozens of police and ambulances." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.40pm on Saturday, 3 June, 2023 we were called to a report of a fire at a property on South Bridge, Edinburgh. Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished. There were no reports of injuries. Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire."READ NEXT:
