New V8 GT/CS is 'built for top-down fun' in the West Coast sun. Should work in the West Country too...
There have been plenty of Mustang special editions over the years, which we at PH thought we were up to speed on: GT500s, Bullitts, Boss 302s, Hertz Editions and so on. But we were ignorant to the California Special, or GT/CS, a car first built for less than six months in 1968 and marketed exclusively in the Golden State. Despite not actually selling out its allotted production run , the GT/CS became a cult hero - helped along by 21st century remakes - and is actually very collectible today.
Marking the California Special out from other drop-top Mustangs are red 'GT/CS' badges - one in the new Ebony Black honeycomb grille, one for the boot and one for each sill - with a 'California Special' script along the side that only becomes visible in strong sunlight. So good luck with that one. The front splitter is unique to the car, as are the Carbonised Grey wheels that look a lot like those from the Bullitt.
