One of the traditions Rickie Fowler is most excited about at Augusta National is good, old-fashioned clapping after a shot, with fans engaged in the moment rather than tied to their phones.

It isn’t Magnolia Lane, Amen Corner or the Champions Locker Room at Augusta National that has Rickie Fowler most excited about getting another shot at a green jacket at the Masters Tournament.applause – as in clapping after a good shot.

“How cool is it to hear the applause?” Fowler said this week at a pre-tournament event for Mercedes-Benz, one of the three official sponsors for the Masters Tournament."“To hear an actual applause for good shots, or when you step up on the tee, you don’t hear that at tournaments anymore because everyone has their phones up and they’re filming it."

Golf fans with their phones at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas. That's because phones are an absolute no-go at Augusta National. Open the official spectator guide and there, in red print, is a warning that phones are strictly prohibited on the grounds at all times. In the run-down of prohibited items, cell phones are actually listed ahead of even “weapons of any kind.

On Wednesday, the day before the official first round at the Masters began, I walked the grounds of the Masters and it was fascinating to hear how people dealt without having their phones close at hand.
