The law has been harshly criticized by a major donor to the University of Alabama, Hugh F. Culverhouse. Culverhouse has donated so much money to the University of Alabama that it named its law school after him.the law a “trampling of the constitution,” “an attack against women,” and “an affront to the rule of law itself.” He has also called for out-of-state students to boycott the university until the abortion law is repealed or modified. Alabama has announced that it is returning his $26.
Nevertheless, it is difficult to believe that Culverhouse’s strong and public opposition to the Alabama abortion law did not play a significant role in the university’s decision to return tens of millions of dollars. Disputes between wealthy donors and their recipient institutions are commonplace.
