MELBOURNE - Sacked Australia fullback Israel Folau’s crowdfunding campaign to raise money to fight his termination has been shut down by the GoFundMe platform, with more than A$750,000 to be refunded to thousands of donors.
RA and the Waratahs tore up Folau’s four-year contract last month after the fundamentalist Christian was found guilty of a “high-level breach” of RA’s code of conduct for posting on social media that hell awaits homosexuals and other groups. GoFundMe’s decision was polarising, drawing plenty of praise from LGBT groups on social media but also criticism from conservative Christians after the platform waited three days before acting.
