Hordes of flying ants descended on Merseyside today forcing people out of their gardens and leaving some people "petrified". Every summer, swarms of the insects come out of their nests on what is known as Flying Ant Day.
She said: "The one day we get some decent weather and there are flying ants everywhere. I am petrified of them. I am anxious and I need them all to go away." Pamela Pendleton added: "I've been shaking my hair every five minutes thinking there's one in my hair."According to the Royal Society of Biology, flying ants usually appear when wind speeds are less than 6.3 metres per second and temperatures are above 13C. Ants usually fly when it's calm and warm.
