Anthony Duclair is still trying to find a groove with the San Jose Sharks but there’s little question he left a positive impression on his former coach with the Florida Panthers.
“Big smile. We loved having him around there,” said Panthers bench boss Paul Maurice of Duclair, who he coached for one season. “There are guys that get injured that you want in and out of your building by 9:30 so they don’t bring everybody else down. He was the opposite. We just wanted him around so much. What a wonderful joy for the game and laughter and that part we certainly miss.”

Both the Sharks and Duclair, a pending unrestricted free agent, have a few months to decide whether they want to remain together long-term. Each side is keeping its options open, but Duclair could fetch a nice return if the Sharks opt to deal him before the NHL’s trade deadline in March.“I’m just looking for a full 60-minute effort for myself,” Duclair said last week after he scored against the Boston Bruins. “It’s always nice to see the puck go in the back of the net.
