You’d think that there’d be no problem given that DeSantis says protecting the sanctity of elections is important and, more importantly, DOJ officials had beenwithout fuss. But it seems that DeSantis and his Republican cronies have determined that any disenfranchisement that results from blocking routine enforcement of the Voting Rights Act and Americans With Disabilities Act is worth the applause it will generate on the right.
While many are monitoring the possibility of domestic violent extremism rearing its head this week, there are other players in the mix. Foreign adversaries like Russia, China, Iran and North Korea may flex their cyber muscles — or just claim they did — to sow further chaos and confusion and erode credibility in election outcomes. In fact, Prominent Putin ally and Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin — previously indicted for meddling in the 2016 U.S.
: “Gentlemen, we interfered, we are interfering and we will interfere…Carefully, precisely, surgically…”, making it far less likely that a major breach could occur. But countries like Russia don’t need to actually hack into or manipulate votes to succeed. A mere claim that they compromised votes in key precincts — perhaps with a deliberately left trail of computer breadcrumbs — could exacerbate already tense local disputes over results and shift confusion into chaos.
