The Palm Beach (Fla.) County elections department has asked voters to consider voting by mail for the Aug. 18 primary and the Nov. 3 general election.

“As the coronavirus concerns continue to grow, voting by mail is the safest and most convenient way that a voter can cast their vote,” Link said in a statement. “In Palm Beach County, 41% of the votes cast in March were by Vote-by-Mail ballots, and I anticipate that number will increase for the August and November elections.”

Americans saw images of people standing in line to vote, many standing close to one another despite COVID-19 social distancing requirements. That has sparked widespread support for mail-in voting in 2020.President Donald Trump, who voted by mail in Florida’s March 17 presidential primary, has opposed efforts to broaden or encourage voting by mail, saying it facilitates fraud though he has not pointed to specific instances. Democrats say it would be safer and would promote voter turnout.
