Hong Kong has raised its hurricane warning to the highest level
With winds of around 125 mph, it is due to make landfall late on Friday evening or early Saturday morning.National Meteorological Center forecasters have put out a typhoon red warning.
It said it expected maximum water levels to rise five or six metres above previous records and may reach record levels, with serious flooding in low-lying coastal areas. It is the first No. 10 warning in Hong Kong since Super Typhoon Mangkhut hit Hong Kong in 2018.Hong Kong today as Super Typhoon Saola approaches More than 300 people have been stranded at Hong Kong’s airport by the cancellation of about 460 flights.
About 330 people have already sought refuge at temporary shelters, while residents of low-lying areas have placed sandbags at their doors to prevent flooding and many are stocking up on food supplies. Shenzhen, a city of more than 17 million in China’s south-east, suspended work, businesses and financial markets from Friday afternoon, warning of destructive winds which could last into Saturday.
