Further strike action has been avoided
First Bus says it is "delighted" after drivers accepted its latest pay offer, putting an end to strike action.
Planned industrial action began on Sunday, June 18, and 800 Unite members walked out following dispute over pay. Images and videos shared across social media showed workers on the picket lines in Leeds. Further strikes were due to take place today and First Bus warned of a limited service and 39 routes not running throughout Monday, June 19. But these strikes were postponed at the eleventh hour as a pay settlement was agreed with the union. First Bus said there would be a "full return" of bus services on Tuesday, June 20.Now, it has been confirmed Unite members have accepted a 13.43 percent pay rise from First Bus.
"This avoids any further damaging strike action and the severe disruption this would have caused to the daily lives of our customers who rely on the bus to get to work, education and for appointments. The whole team can now focus on continuing to deliver an excellent service throughout the communities we serve in Leeds."
