Canon Thompson continued his fine season with the bat by driving in a season-high five RBIs.
Thanks to a cool treat, Briggs Larsen was enjoying his first-ever trip to Jim Kethan Field Saturday afternoon. His trip got even better when FBCA opened the state playoffs with an 11-1 win. It's not every school year when Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy's boys' athletic program wins state playoff games in the three major sports of football, basketball and baseball.
The Eagles had an early 1-0 advantage but it wilted in a hurry with Thompson's second at-bat when he belted a bases-loaded triple in the second inning for three RBIs, followed by a two-RBI single in the third when FBCA put the game away with four runs. In the first inning, Thompson was tagged out after rounding third base off a basehit, the result of some miscommunication, and then Adin Martinez was tagged out at home plate trying to score on a wild pitch.
Jon Neel picked up the win on the mound by working just under six innings or in other words essentially the entire contest since the game was stopped in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.
