Firefighters are battling a huge blaze at the derelict St David's Church in Eldon Street
Eight fire engines from Preston, Fulwood, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge and Chorley, along with the command unit and Stinger from Blackburn, the water bowser from Leyland and aerial ladder platforms from Blackpool and Preston attended.Nimesh Patel from Best One, situated opposite, said he believed it was only a matter of time before there was a fire at the church.“I’ve also heard that people were living there so hopefully there was nobody inside when this happened.
“When it first went up you could see flames over the garage roof. The Inkerman Street side of the building is all wood so it went up badly.St David’s Church and the community hall is set to be demolished to make way for a new supported living development.
