Firefighters worked overnight Saturday on containing the '7K Fire'.
As of Sunday morning, the fire is burning an estimated 300 acres and is considered 40% contained, the Oregon Department of Forestry said.High relative humidity and cooler overnight temperatures helped fire crews make progress on the fire overnight. Firefighters plan to hold the existing containment lines, stop it from growing, and keep flames away from homes and structures.
Steep terrain is making it challenging for firefighters to put up fire lines around parts of the perimeter. “Safety of fire personnel remains a top priority as firefighters work to suppress fire in an environment with steep terrain, narrow roads, brushy vegetation, and risks of falling trees and debris,” the Oregon Department of Forestry said.
Crews are staging at Perkins Peninsula County Park, which is currently closed to the public. People are asked to stay away from the area for safety reasons.
