Fire crews battle fire after explosion near a SAWS facility in Wilson County
Jerry Lara, Staff / San Antonio Express-Newsfacility off Hardy Road in Wilson County may have been caused by a lightning strike, according to media reports.
A spokesperson for the San Antonio Fire Department couldn’t confirm the cause of the blaze on a private property near Interstate 37 and the Bexar County line, but said that SAFD, SAWS officials and Bexar County Fire responded to the incident.According to SAFD, emergency units responded to an explosion on SAWS property that is leased to a private person, where three vertical oil storage tanks — approximately 5000 gallons a piece — had caught fire.
Officials were able to contain any potential oil spills by turning off the pumping source, allowing the fire to burn out.
