Firefighters took on a huge blaze that broke out in a Brooklyn home on Thursday morning.
Responding FDNY units arrived at 1591 East 43rd Street at 2:40 a.m. on Jan. 12 to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the home’s basement. Fire suppression units were hampered by a bad hydrant and had trouble gaining access to the fire because of an illegally subdivided basement.Fire Department personnel consisting of 12 units and 60 firefighters used three hose lines to attack the fire. Three residents suffered minor injuries as a result and were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Searches throughout the building yielded negative results. The Department of Buildings responded to the scene, according to an FDNY official.Photo by Lloyd Mitchell
