Still a Spurs fit, Lonnie Walker nears possible end

Walker blended perfectly into the culture of both the organization and the city, and few players ever made a Fiesta-themed jersey look cooler, especially when soaring to the rim in a multicolored blur. But if the Spurs let Wednesday pass without extending the offer? That would make Walker an unrestricted free agent on Thursday, and it almost certainly would spell the end of what once was a promising Spurs tenure.
But it’s not just about playing time. If the Spurs want to hold on to Murray and make a run at another established player to pair with him, they’d need to clear Walker’s salary from the books to maximize their cap space. So as painful as this reality might sound to those who’ve been tantalized by the potential of two of the most dynamic young Spurs of the last half-decade, the chances of Murray and Walker staying together seem awfully slim.
