Plans are in the works to bulldoze a church in the Biltmore Estates area of Phoenix to make room for more homes, but some are hoping that the building can be preserved.
Plans are in the works to knock down a Phoenix church to make way for more housing, but there is also an effort to save the church, due to its unique and historic value.
Campbell Community Church, located in the area of 28th Street and Campbell, has been a part of the community since the 1960s. The church was built by notable architect Mel Ensign, in the Mid-Century Modern mold. "We used to have the pool across the street from it. I mean they got torn down, and we got more houses, so do we need more houses? I don’t know?"There is a battle underway currently to save a Phoenix church from the bulldozers. The Mid-Century Modern style church, located in the Biltmore Estates area, has been a part of the community for decades, and some hope the property will be a part of the community for a bit longer yet. FOX 10's Brian Webb reports.
"Religious properties have emerged as leading property type for redevelopment. Faced with declining membership and large physical properties a number of church congregations are either retaining portions of the property with some buildings and subdividing to sell land, or selling entirely to relocate to smaller buildings or disbanding.
