Renault held its annual shareholder meeting in Paris on June 12. French Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne on June 11 said that plans to merge the carmaker with its Italian-American rival Fiat Chrysler Automobiles could re-emerge.
The comments follow similar remarks by French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who also said he felt a merger between Renault and Fiat remained a"good opportunity". The French government owns a 15% stake in the carmaker. Fiat Chairman John Elkann on June 6 withdrew a 50-50 merger proposal with Renault; the company said that “political conditions in France do not currently exist for such a combination to proceed successfully”.
