Officers reported finding methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and banned pesticides in vehicles crossing the border between Sept. 18 and Sept. 24.
Border agents seized more than $4 million worth of drugs at border crossings in San Diego and Imperial counties over a week-long period last month, according to officials with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said.
The largest of the 11 “significant” seizures was made Sept. 21 at the Calexico East Port of Entry, when CBP officers found 74 pounds of fentanyl and six pounds of methamphetamine in a woman’s vehicle, officials said. The drugs were worth an estimated $1 million, officials said. Two days later, officers seized five packages of meth weighing just over 23 pounds, three packages of fentanyl powder weighing 24.
Illicit drugs weren’t the only type of prohibited item found at the border entries. On Sept. 19, officers seized five bottles of pesticides banned in the U.S. from a driver and passenger crossing in San Ysidro.
