The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the government can’t stop people who have domestic violence restraining orders filed against them from owning guns

A federal grand jury indicted Rahimi, who pled guilty and was sentenced in September 2021 to more than six years in prison, according to federal court documents. Rahimi, 23, later challenged his indictment, arguing the law that prevented him from owning a gun was unconstitutional.

The appeals court withdrew its original decision and on Thursday decided to vacate Rahimi’s conviction and ruled the federal law banning people subject to domestic violence restraining orders from owning guns was unconstitutional.
