Fears of Syrian refugee crackdown and threats to LGBT people if Erdogan re-elected in Turkey
have reported that refugees who return to Syria face torture, rape and disappearance.
Taha Elgazi, a prominent Syrian rights activist in Turkey, said many refugees believe the government will carry out deportations in the first months after the elections. Many Syrians were particularly anxious about Mr Erdogan’s plan to restore relations with the Assad regime, Mr Elgazi said.
