A person tried to steal a helicopter from a California airport Wednesday and crashed the aircraft in the attempt, officials said.

The trespasser broke into several choppers at Sacramento Executive Airport in the state capital between 4 and 6 a.m.; when police officers arrived on the scene, they found one"that had been operated with major damage," the Sacramento Police Department said.Sacramento police responded to an apparent helicopter burglary that resulted in a crash at Sacramento Executive Airport, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
The FBI, which is investigating the incident with the police department, said the preliminary investigation has found at least one"person of interest" and could not confirm whether others were involved.
