Seventeen shots, 10 on target, three goals and some of the best attacking performances of the season stole the Leeds United headlines on Saturday, but Daniel Farke was keen to throw his side a curveball in his analysis. The attacking dominance of the win over Watford was impossible to ignore in the post-match coverage, but the first words from the manager summed up the standards he is driving at Elland Road.
Yet Farke wanted to flag up the brass tacks of promotion-chasing football. It’s clean sheets and 1-0 wins which get a team over the hump in a 46-game campaign. “[We] could have scored perhaps even a few more, but we then also showed the discipline to stay concentrated, focused. Although we would have won the game anyway, we had the greediness to bring it with 2-0 over the line.
Farke would have been forgiven for waxing lyrical about his attacking players, but he prefers a measured, never too up or too down, approach that keeps all of the squad feeling appreciated.
