After a 24-year-old father was shot to death by sheriff's deputies earlier this month, his family has filed a claim for damages against the county.
The family of a 24-year-old man shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and the man who was with him filed a claim Wednesday for damages against the county, alleging that the men were unarmed when deputies opened fire on them in the parking lot of a Willowbrook apartment complex.East 132nd and South San Pedro streets on June 6“During the contact, a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” the department previously said in a statement. Neither Twyman nor Laffell was armed that day, the claim states. Sheriff’s officials have confirmed that no weapons were found. Dunn said that deputies approached the vehicle and one opened the back passenger side door. When the door opened, the car began moving in reverse, prompting the shooting, he said.
