A top Facebook executive says the company has run 2 analyses and found “no significant attempt by outside forces” to influence the 2016 Brexit referendum

Nick Clegg, Facebook's head of global affairs, said that there wasn't a conspiracy to spread misinformation on Facebook leading up to the Brexit vote.: As Facebook continues to reel from how Russian operatives used the platform to spread misinformation during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, a top executive says the company has run two analyses and found “no significant attempt by outside forces” to influence the 2016 Brexit referendum.

Clegg also said there is no evidence to suggest the data harvested from millions of Facebook users by Cambridge Analytica was used in the Brexit vote. Before he was hired at Facebook last year, Clegg was deputy prime minister of the U.K. from 2010 to 2015. Leading up to the Brexit vote, Clegg was a strong supporter of the U.K. staying inside the European Union, but he dispelled the notion by some opponents to Brexit that the Kremlin spread negative stories about immigrants on Facebook.

“Much though I understand why people want to sort of reduce that eruption in British politics to some kind of plot or conspiracy—or some use of new social media through opaque means—I’m afraid the roots to British Euroscepticism go very, very deep,” he said. Since the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Facebook has stepped up its efforts to protect democratic elections by removing fake accounts that spread propaganda. It hasseveral networks of accounts from state actors in Russia and Iran, but the company doesn’t actually take down fake news, prompting concerns that misleading stories on Facebook can still influence public opinion, even if it doesn’t originate from foreign operatives.

John Bolton Urges War Against The Sun After Uncovering Evidence It Has Nuclear CapabilitiesJohn Bolton Urges War Against The Sun After Uncovering Evidence It Has Nuclear CapabilitiesWASHINGTON—Amid escalating tensions with the hostile celestial object, National Security Adviser John Bolton argued for military action against the Sun Monday after being presented with evidence it has nuclear capabilities. “Newly collected intelligence shows the Sun, day after day, generating extreme levels of nuclear energy, and America simply cannot stand idly by any longer,” said Bolton, adding that the United States will soon be forced to consider a preemptive attack on the Sun, such as deploying troops to the Sun’s surface or a targeted strike to swiftly take out the Sun. “We know the Sun is harboring dangerous amounts of nuclear power in what we are referring to as its ‘Core,’ a site where the Sun appears to be fusing over 600 million metric tons of hydrogen every second. This is, needless to say, an extremely powerful, aggressive star that threatens the American way of life, and, frankly, I question the utility of negotiating with such an unreasonable orb.” Bolton added that the United States would likely consider military action after giving the Sun a chance to comply with a nuclear accord.
