Facebook announced yesterday that it will remove videos manipulated using AI to depict people saying false things, known as deepfakes

on Monday that it will remove videos manipulated using AI to depict people saying false things, known as deepfakes. The move is a small step to to tackle fake news ahead of the 2020 U.S. election, but the social network remains under pressure to crack down on less sophisticated misinformation campaigns.

Facebook added that it would continue to remove photos, video or audio that violates its community guidelines regarding voter suppression, hate speech, nudity and graphic violence, while relying on third-party fact checkers to review and flag as “false” any content that does not meet its criteria for removal.
