NRA board member Richard Childress, a former NASCAR driver and the owner of a self-titled car racing enterprise, submitted his resignation to the board on Monday, according to a copy of the letter obtained by Newsweek.
On 8/20/19 at 8:46 AM EDTA fifth member of the National Rifle Association's board of directors has resigned, the latest in a string of high-profile defections within the powerful gun rights group in recent weeks.
The letter revealed that Brewer's firm earned $24 million over a 13-month period, payments that Childress and North described as"excessive on their face."A picture of Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre is seen at the National Rifle Association booth during CPAC 2019 February 28, 2019 in National Harbor, Maryland.
Childress, also serving as the NRA'S first vice president, read North's resignation letter aloud at the annual meeting in April.Childress did not refer in his resignation letter to the Brewer dispute or any of the myriad fiscal and governance scandals that have plagued the NRA since April, whendocumented what would be the first in a long line of allegations of financial misconduct that have racked the organization.

NRA Warns Banning Assault Weapons Would Infringe On Americans’ Constitutional Right To Make Them All PayFAIRFAX, VA—Citing the founding fathers’ strongly held beliefs regarding violent retribution, the National Rifle Association warned Monday that a ban on assault weapons would infringe on the constitutional and inalienable right of Americans to make them all pay. “Lawmakers need to understand the importance of having the God-given freedom to enact revenge, a fundamental and part of this nation’s history,” said CEO Wayne LaPierre, claiming that the Second Amendment granted Americans the right to bear arms both for protection and when some miserable bastard absolutely has it coming. “If you take away our assault weapons, it’ll be way too easy for just anyone to show their smug little face and not pay the ultimate price. Infringing on our rights to show the smart-asses who’s boss only leads to an America where any citizen can just say anything they want, whether we like it or not, with no fear of being shot to death.” The NRA also unveiled a new ad campaign citing the Declaration Of Independence’s assertion that every citizen is entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of bloody revenge.
