Ex-Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich says it was a 'big lie' he tried to sell a US senate seat and said Mike Madigan played a role in his impeachment.
CHICAGO -- Borrowing a phrase championed by former President Donald Trump, who sprung him from prison, ex-Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich says it was a"big lie" that he tried to sell a U.S. senate seat.
He then levels a new allegation against federal authorities: that then House Speaker Michael Madigan and the FBI were in cahoots to take him down. The disgraced governor, who spent nearly eight years of a 14 year sentence in federal prison, claims in the court filing that he had been"targeted for political destruction by an unscrupulous United States Attorney" Patrick Fitzgerald,"who weaponized his office and criminalized what were legal and routine political conversations in order to unconstitutionally overthrow a duly elected, and twice elected Governor.
