The Star Wars canon has revealed a lot about Palpatine’s story before the Skywalker saga. Palpatine’s Star Wars timeline begins way before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Born in Naboo, Palpatine would grow to become a Sith lord, a senator, and the Emperor. By the end of the Skywalker saga, Darth Sidious claimed to have become “all the Sith.”

6 Palpatine Became A Sith Before Joining The Senate Darth Sidious used the galaxy’s politics as a weapon for decades, but Palpatine was already a Sith before joining the Galactic Senate. Marc Sumerak’s Star Wars: The Secrets of the Sith, which sees Palpatine narrating his own story, explains why Palpatine became a politician. Palpatine recalls how, “as a dark apprentice,” he “sensed that the Galactic Republic was in disarray.
Just like Plagueis tried to create a Force Dyad with Palpatine, Darth Sidious tried to establish a connection with Anakin Skywalker. However, neither of them succeeded. It is no coincidence that the Sith Rule of Two establishes that there can only be two Sith – a master, and an apprentice. Ironically, the Force Dyad that would change the fate of the galaxy and bring an end to the Sith forever was formed by a Jedi and a dark side apprentice, Rey and Kylo Ren, respectively.
