He says his daughters are scared to leave him alone
The first interviews with Phillip Schofield since him bombshell affair admission have today been aired to the public and the star said he was “utterly broken and ashamed” by the revelations.
The BBC’s Amol Rajan first asked Phillip how he was, after taking a deep breath and a pause, the former This Morning presenter said: "Its like a weird numbness, I know that's a selfish point of view but you come to a point where you just think - how much are you supposed to take? Pressed as to how long ago that was, Phillip confirmed it was a couple of weeks before going on to confirm to the interviewer that he was paying for the independent legal advice the young man was receiving. Amol Rajan then asked Phillip where he had met the person in question.
Amol Rajan pressed Phillip, asking him if looking back the messages could be seen as flirting, Phillip replied that they could not. He went on to assert that in 41 years in television he had never been the target of accusations like this saying "that is all this is, accusations". "That happened maybe four or five times over the next few months and I know it's unforgivable but we weren't, we were friends, we weren't in a relationship. I was really in a mess with my sexuality at the time. And it just happened."
Amol asked Schofield: "You met someone who was a child, you were in a position of power over them, you used your power eventually to give them something they craved, which was a shot at a job in the media, and you nurtured that relationship and that relationship became sexual. They might ask, what's the difference between that and grooming?"
Referring to his former colleague, the 61-year-old said: "He is an innocent party here. I was older, I should have known better. [The affair] was consensual, but it was my fault." “I don’t know where this came from… that I have more power than anybody else. Bless Dan, there is a lot of things that I think he said out of hatred for me. And now I’ve actually brought myself to a far far greater… you will never have done… I am done.
