when Elijah learned that one of the best players in his baseball league often ran with his dad. Elijah knew that Darrell ran , so he asked if he could join. Darrell immediately started picking him up on hisOne day, Darrell realized they’d run seven days in a row, something he’d never done before. Elijah wanted to know if they’d broken a record, so they consulted Google and found a registry of streakers. Elijah decided then that he wanted to streak for at least a year.
Jackson joined them four months later because he wanted to be a part of the group, Darrell says. Occasionally, their mother, Christina, or two sisters would join them on their runs as well. While their daughters started infrequently, they eventually got more consistent. Once they had run a week or so in a row of their own accord, Darrell and the boys talked to them about joining the streak officially. So about a year into his initial streak with his sons, Annalise and Sierra joined them.
Darrell admits that he liked the idea of the records they’d break as a family, and as the youngest streakers ever. He doesn’t force the kids to run, but he does guide them—for example, he’ll turn off the TV if they want to watch a show rather than run.The Stempke streak is a family institution now, so much so that when Darrell ended his streak this January due to a bout of pneumonia, his kids kept running without him .
