Keith Wyness has insisted the Premier League will be a “laughing stock” if Everton or Nottingham Forest are relegated after the season has finished., the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the current set of financial rules are “not fit for purpose”.
Everton have already been deducted six points for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Regulations this season. The Toffees, along with Nottingham Forest, now face a seperate charge – with any punishment expected to be applied to their 2023-24 points totals.Sean Dyche’s side sit four points clear of 18th-place Luton while Forest are three points away from the Hatters with 10 games left to play.“The calendar now says that any appeals would have to be heard in the last week of the season, or possibly the week after the season has ended.
