Dan Shulman was ESPN Radio's play-by-play voice for the Astros' four World Series trips in six years. He was back in Houston on Saturday to call the UH-Alabama basketball game.Dan Shulman spending time in Houston has become a rite of fall in recent years with the Astros making the World Series four times in six years.
It’s his first Cougars home game this season and second in the past two seasons after calling UH’s win over Virginia last season. “And they’re on a short list of teams that can win the national championship this year. Kelvin Sampson is a remarkable program builder and sustainer and there’s no team tougher than these guys, there’s no team that plays better defense than these guys. Now UConn’s great, Purdue’s great and there’s a lot of other great teams but these guys are right up there.”
That concluded his 12th and final World Series for ESPN Radio. The first was the memorable 2011 Fall Classic won by St. Louis over Texas in seven games after the Rangers twice failed to clinch the championship in Game 6 when one strike away from elimination.
