DEVELOPING: Escaped inmate killed, but not before suspected of preying on Houston family, authorities say

The end of the long manhunt happened swiftly, after days of failing to find him, but with a heavy cost for a Houston family. Officials did not identify them, other than to confirm they are from the Houston area and likely arrived at their weekend home on Thursday. A relative worried because they had not heard from the family of two adults and three children.
Lopez, 46, stabbed a corrections department bus driver and pried his way out of a prison bus on Texas 7 near Centerville — close to the family’s home. Clark said he likely lived for days in the woods and around the home eluding capture.
