Enter the Dragon's script was originally titled Blood and Steel, and the movie's final fight scene has a very clever allusion to this theme.
The original title of Enter the Dragon can be seen in the final showdown of the Bruce Lee classic. Released in 1973, Enter the Dragon follows Shaolin monk Lee as he is recruited to infiltrate a martial arts tournament on the island of the sinister Shih Kien's Han, in order to uncover evidence of the villain's criminal empire.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Few martial arts films are as universally beloved and enduringly timeless as Enter the Dragon, which stands out as Bruce Lee's only Hollywood movie as the lead actor. Enter the Dragon famously launched the martial arts genre into the mainstream of the Western world and posthumously cemented Bruce Lee as a cinematic legend.
Han's missing right hand is the result of a "bad experience" with guns that Lee's confidante Braithwaite alludes to early in Enter the Dragon, which is also why guns are outlawed on Han's island. Han's claw hand makes him a highly formidable antagonist even against Lee, and a visually memorable Bond-esque villain because of it.
Why Enter The Dragon Is The Better Title While Blood and Steel might have been what the studio originally wanted to call the movie, Enter the Dragon is simply the better of the two. To begin with, Enter the Dragon is a punchier title, referencing Lee's might as a Shaolin warrior established in Enter the Dragon's opening fight, whereas Blood and Steel only connects to Lee and Han's final fight.
Though Lee's birth name was Lee Jun-fan, he also performed under the stage name Lee Siu-lung, which translates as "Little Dragon Lee", Lee having been born in the year of the dragon in 1940. With Lee's directorial debut The Way of the Dragon also referencing his name of Lee Siu-lung, Enter the Dragon ultimately would follow suit in Bruce Lee's fourth movie as the lead.
