Former ITV star Sammy Winward is set to make her big return to the screens after eight years of being away from the limelight. She is best known for playing Katie Sugden in ITV's Emmerdale, a role which she departed in 2015, 14 years after joining the Yorkshire-based soap opera.
The show focuses on Sutcliffe's victims, as well as the police officers involved in the investigation, and follows the five-year-long manhunt to find the notorious killer who carried out his crimes around Manchester, West Yorkshire, and Sheffield. Sammy, 38, will take on the gruelling role of Sonia, Peter's wife.
The network has previously stated that the story of the victims, their loved ones and Sutcliffe's survivors are at the heart of the new series. Bosses behind the show delved through extensive archives of the investigations to discover Sutcliffe's identity, revised interview transcripts and police reports from the time.
