DeSoto ISD trustees tapped a nearby district for the lone finalist to be their next superintendent.
DeSoto ISD remains under the control of the Texas Education Agency, which took over the district in 2020 due to financial mismanagement and poor governance. Years earlier, sloppy bookkeeping and lavish spending led to a $21.6 million budget shortfall for the district that resulted in deep staff cuts and a temporary school closure.
If the board hadn’t picked someone during this latest meeting, the decision may have fallen to a different group of trustees. Two seats are up for election on May 7. DeSoto families are looking to trustees and administrators to restore trust and confidence in the district. Recently, school officials had to cancel a day of classes to focus on campus safety after videos went viral showing fighting in a classroom.
Rodgers is currently deputy chief of strategic initiatives in Dallas ISD, a much larger district that is simultaneously undergoing leadership change with the resignation of longtime Superintendent Michael Hinojosa.
