Elon Musk confirmed that he does indeed tweet from the toilet.
Prior to the live in-person interview, Anderson played a preview of a second interview with Musk that he conducted recently at the new Tesla factory in Austin, Texas. In that prerecorded interview, Musk spoke more about the robots that build his cars than the automobiles themselves.
He’d speak more about Tesla later in the interview, going in-depth into several controversies regarding the Federal Communications Commission and the formation of the company. Musk described 2017 to 2019, the turbulent years when he was sleeping on the floor of his factory, as “the longest period of excruciating pain in my life.” In typical Musk fashion, he wasn’t exactly humble about his learnings from this stretch.
However, the more pressing news of the day was the revelation that he was planning a hostile takeover of Twitter, the social media giant of which. Musk’s brash confidence was a bit tempered when it came to the possibility that the takeover would succeed, and the consequences if it did. He did concede that encouraging violence or violating other laws would still be enforced, but in gray areas, he said, tweets would remain public.
