The jury in the criminal fraud trial of Elizabeth Holmes lost another member on Friday, marking the third departure from the 12-member jury in the high-profile case
Federal prosecutors during court testimony in the coming days are likely to explore Elizabeth Holmes’s efforts to tie Theranos Inc. to pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc., aiming to show the jury another way in which Ms. Holmes is said to have deceived investors.
Despite Pfizer’s decision not to work with Theranos, Ms. Holmes went on to tell investors that her company’s technology had been validated by 10 of the 15 largest pharmaceutical companies, a claim prosecutors say was false. Ms. Holmes showed investors a document prosecutors allege was forged with an image of Pfizer’s logo as supposed evidence of the pharmaceutical company’s support for Theranos’s technology. Pfizer had no part in this report, Assistant U.S.
The majority of patients, according to the document shared with investors, found the Theranos testing system easy to use and nearly painless. The conclusions of the study were that “the Theranos System performed with superior performance,” its “accuracy is excellent” and it held up against various commercial “gold-standards.”
