Elevating the next generation of world leaders paid Deloitte
What does it say when the world’s most recognizable climate activist is a 16-year-old girl from Sweden? That the most vocal advocate for female education is a young Pakistani woman? That a small group of high school students from Florida can drive the conversation around gun control in the US?
That’s where business can make a difference. I believe it’s essential for the business community to equip young people with the skills and access to opportunity they need to create positive change and build a better world.Before that can happen, though, young people need to believe that businesses’ objectives are aligned with their values. Right now, that’s not necessarily the case.
Technologies like artificial intelligence are rapidly altering the future, both in and out of the workplace, and transforming the skills needed to succeed. Meanwhile, the elements of educational development—especially access to tertiary schooling and women’s access to education—are lagging in much of the world. If not addressed swiftly, these threats could widen a knowledge gap that will stall or even reverse social progress.
